Few weeks ago, we heard news about farmers from Bukidnon throwing away overripe tomatoes due to logistical problems and insufficient income. According to the report of Philstar, farmers could not afford the transportation expenses to bring their goods in the market. It is just heartbreaking and annoying at the same time to realize that the government cannot support them. Farmers work so hard for the food production yet such could not be reciprocated with a little support.

The good news is there is a group named as Rural Rising Ph who helps local farmers from all over Luzon to connect to buyers online. It is a non-profit organization which helps distressed local farmers by providing transport and sending trucks where there are over production of vegetables. They pay the farmers above farm-gate prices and then sell the products to their members below “bagsakan” prices. They also organized different events that provide platforms and opportunities to local farmers to showcase their products.

We joined their facebook group and found many ways on how we can help our local farmers:

1. Join their BAYC events – BAYC stands for box-all-you-can. For only P699, you can fill you boxes for as many vegetables you want within a limited time. The events are held in different Ayala Malls like Alabang Town Center, Solenad, Glorietta and Marquee Mall.

2. Support their online shop – Rural Rising PH has an online shop where they sell “rescued produce” at very low prices. Some of the products offered were: P450 for 10 kilos of lemon, P250 for 2 buckets of tomatoes. Products vary depending on the goods from farmers that needed to be rescued.

3. Join the Facebook group and donate – videos and gcash of farmers who need financial support are posted in the group and your donation is very much welcome.

4. Spread the news and raise awareness about projects that supports our local farmers. Share this post to your friends. 🙂

For transparency, this is not a sponsored post and this page is not connected to Rural Rising PH. This only targets to help Filipino farmers and found the same cause from the said organization. For more information, you may visit Rural Rising Philippines FB page & Rural Rising PH FB group.
