The iconic Love Bus is making a nostalgic and hopeful return to Philippine roads, thanks to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s pledge during his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA). First introduced in the 1970s by the Metro Manila Transit Corporation, the Love Bus was a symbol of orderly, air-conditioned commuting in Metro Manila. Now, it’s back — and this time, it’s free.

In his SONA 2025, President Marcos announced the return of the Love Bus as part of a broader push for accessible public transport. Pilot operations are already underway in Davao City and Cebu, with plans to expand across Visayas and Mindanao. Although no timeline has been set for Metro Manila, Filipinos are hopeful that the capital will soon experience the same convenience and nostalgia.
This modern revival is not just about transportation—it’s about restoring a cultural icon with modern values: free, reliable, and efficient mobility for all. It aligns with government efforts to improve public transit and reduce the economic burden of daily commuting.

Earlier attempts to revive the brand, such as Makati’s e-jeepney Love Bus in 2023, were limited in scope and still charged fares. Today’s version brings back the spirit of “libreng sakay” in full force.
As more Filipinos hear about the return of the Love Bus, public interest and anticipation are rising. Will it become a nationwide movement? Time will tell. For now, one thing is clear: the Love Bus is back—and it’s here to serve, for free.
