The 21st edition of Cinemalaya 2025, the country’s leading independent film festival, will run from October 3 to 12, 2025. Organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Cinemalaya Foundation, the festival remains the foremost platform for Filipino filmmakers to showcase bold and original stories.

This year’s theme is “Layag: sa Alon, Hangin, at Unós,” which symbolizes the journey of Philippine independent cinema through challenges and transformations. It highlights resilience and creativity, reflecting how storytellers navigate the evolving tides of society and culture.

For Cinemalaya 2025, 10 full-length films will compete for the prestigious Balanghai trophies. The lineup, announced by Inquirer Entertainment, includes:

Alongside the feature films, 10 short films will also compete, giving a platform to emerging voices in Philippine cinema.

Due to ongoing renovations at CCP, screenings will take place in alternative venues. The main hub is Shangri-La Plaza Cinemas in Mandaluyong, with additional screenings at Ayala Malls Cinemas and Gateway Cineplex 18.

With its compelling theme, strong lineup of films, and expanded reach, Cinemalaya 2025 continues to solidify its role as the most important festival for independent cinema in the Philippines.
